Inner Shakti Yoga
Learn about the age-old practice of yoga and how it can be used as a tool to help you stay healthy.
“Yoga” means “union,” referring to the connection of body, mind, and spirit. This system of physical and mental practices originated in India roughly 5,000 years ago. It is a popular way to increase flexibility, gain strength, and reduce stress and focuses on your body’s natural tendency toward health and self-healing.
While there are many different styles, of yoga, most sessions typically include breathing exercises, postures (sometimes called asanas or poses) that stretch and flex various muscle groups often ending with meditation and relaxation.
When done regularly, yoga can keep you healthy. It can aid in the recovery from illness and pain and it can discourage disease. It can also provide greater mental clarity, emotional balance, and overall wellness. The only requirements to learn yoga are proper instruction from a qualified and knowledgeable teacher and a steady practice. Below is a deeper exploration of the benefits of yoga for your body, mind, and spirit.
About the Instructor
“Practicing and surrendering to various sequences of asanas or postures slowly and synchronizing them with my breath has not only brought flexibility to my whole body but has also improved my range of motion. Diligently immersing into a daily routine helped open many energy channels, especially the main channel, the spine. My body started talking to me, “stretch a little further, reach a little further, bend a little further. With each exhale get deeper into the posture,” and when you release you feel the “aha” moment, bliss, joy. It developed a balance of strength and flexibility and helped with the healing process for many of my health issues.”
Growing up in India, Darshini was surrounded by Yoga and the Yogic Culture. Although she has experimented with different methods like Kundalini Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga, Iyengar Yoga and Hatha Yoga. What They Say
I can highly recommend Darshini’s yoga sessions. I began with her years ago at the Cypress Senior Center, and was able to continue weekly at home via the Internet during the years of Covid. She has developed a routine that perfectly meets my needs as an older adult (78), using a carefully planned sequence of gentle stretches that involves all parts of the body, including breathing. She is sensitive to safety and the needs of older adults, and people of any age or physical condition could benefit from her approach.
I highly recommend Darshini’s Flow Yoga Class for any level of practice from beginners to more experienced learners regardless of age. I especially prefer this yoga class as I have been able to increase my overall flexibility and balance along with strengthening my core. As a teacher and instructor, Darshini is not only extremely knowledgeable but has helped me to be more respectful and aware of my body. She is very easy to follow and encourages everyone to go at one’s own pace using modifications as needed. I feel more confident about moving and stretching my body in a manner as to avoid injuries and accidents.
